We may be going through a little wintry blip, but inside Plan B‘s greenhouses, the green garlic is growing. Stir fry it, char it on the barbeque, make a pesto, chop it into a vinaigrette, or use it anywhere else you’d put mature garlic, and enjoy the taste of early spring. Speaking of which, have you noticed how delicious the greens are these days from Kind Organics and Marvellous Edibles? They’re always good, but growing slowly at very cool temperatures seems to result in extra-concentrated flavours.
Welcome back to Urban Harvest! Seeds, wonderful seeds! Colette‘s table will be loaded with soil amendments, body care and other good things, and you can get all the expert advice you need for a good growing season.
Last week, Best Baa’s $5 special caused a stampede of eager and early cheese fans, and Nicole was left with wide eyes and empty coolers. She’s decided to offer another special to see what happens this time: 200 grams of cream cheese for $5! The flavours are: plain (no salt added), raw garlic, or ground chives and black pepper. No elbowing fellow shoppers out of the way, please.
Heard it through the grape vine: Kyle Warren from Everdale sent this link to a recent video of Kevin Hamilton from Shared Harvest playing blues harmonica: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYx7kR2Jwj0 He grows some mighty fine veg, too.
If you’re carrying around a Loyal Eaters card with ten or more stamps, and you haven’t claimed your rewards yet, this is the week to do so. We’re going to have the draw for goodies from the vendors next week, so we need to get all eligible names on our list.
We have Green Living Show tickets to give away: two per person, while supplies last. Pick them up at the market, and while you’re thinking green, you can drop off any dead batteries you’ve got (cell phones, too) and we’ll pass them along to the students at Dewson School who are trying to win an Eco-Kids contest.
See you at the market!
