March 8th-A Toast to Women Who Feed Us!

March 8th-a toast to women who feed us!

This week’s market falls on International Women’s Day, so let’s pay tribute to the many wonderful women who keep us well-fed, be they farmers, cooks, bakers, makers, sellers, or volunteers! We have so many beautiful, strong women who are part of the market! Here are a few:

There are so many others, too–I need a bigger collage. Thank you all!

It’s fitting that we have a new farmer joining us, whose name is Lauren Nurse. Lauren grows unusual crops at Small Spade Farm (2 hours northeast of Toronto), including salad greens such as mache and claytonia, baby ginger, and heirloom vegetables. She’s going to join us every other week just until our summer growers return. Coming every second week suits her well, because her small herd of Dwarf Nigerian Goats includes some mothers-to-be, and Lauren explained that they count on her to be there when they have their kids- which they always do right on time! This means she can plan her dates quite accurately. She’ll be joining Rodrigo of Plan B, Damon of Culture City, and Vasile Florin in the garage. Please show Lauren a warm Dufferin welcome.

We look forward to welcoming our wonderful women customers, too!
See you at the market!
