Hello Market Friends:
Lots more signs of early spring to get excited about! The WWOOFers* at Marvellous Edibles tried their hands at tapping trees this week, and the results are sure to be sweet. The forest is magical at this time of year, when snow is still on the ground but we know what the flowing sap means. Syrup makers are reporting a good season so far. Ask our market sources of maple syrup, Seth and Blythe, for more information.

Cécile Beaudry will be a visiting vendor this week, introducing her “Taste of Seasons” nut cheeses. She makes three kinds:
OH, My Truffle! is made with cashews, flavored with truffle oil, and dehydrated for about 24 hours.
PROVENCE is made with blanched almonds, shaped by hand and coated with fresh Herbs de Provence.
BLUE ISLAND is made with cashews, and cultured with quinoa rejuvelac. The algae spirulina gives the cheese its blue color.

Try them and tell us what you think!

We have set up a page on the market website In Memory of Debbie Wiecha, whose passing has shocked and saddened us all.  We’re grateful to photographer Rebecca Pinkus for sharing some beautiful images of Debbie and her farm. Market Friends are encouraged to send messages, memories and photos to add to the page. We are also planning a memorial event for the first market in June.

Heidrun‘s Dufferin Park Bakers list:
Rice Bread
Sourdoughs: Rye, Potato-Rosemary, Olive-Onion
Artisan Loaves: Multigrain, Cranberry-Walnut, Kamut
Italians: Rosemary, Multigrain, Raisin

We have a small number of our limited edition, letter-pressed First Market of Spring posters available for sale this week only. They are $10 each. Send me a note to reserve one or ask at the market.

Loyal Eaters: this is the final week to get your card stamped! If you’ve made it to ten, be sure to check in with us to collect your reward and sign up for a chance to win one of two bags stuffed with market goodies in the draw on April 4th.

Garden-lovers alert: Urban Harvest returns with seeds next week!
See you at the Market!
