Organic Pleasures

Organic pleasures

Hello Market Friends:

Pile your baskets high with the beautiful harvests of August! From melons to mushrooms, we’ve got it all.

We invite you to look for the Canadian Organic logo identifying our certified organic farmers. Right now we are particularly fortunate to have certified organic corn from Sosnicki Organic Produce and certified organic peaches from Niagara Lavender Farm two crops that are very rarely produced without the use of conventional methods.

Organic pleasures

Thanks to stellar market volunteer Sarah Bilous for this photo of Aldergrove‘s lovely blooms, also grown chemical-free!

Sarah’s gift reminds me to say….WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! If you are interested in pitching in at the market, please drop a line or come and chat to Nicole Jacobs or myself about volunteering. High school students who are looking for community service hours are welcome.

Forbes Wild Foods will have wild blueberries and golden chanterelles.

Calling all bacon fans! Huber’s Wildwood Farm tried bringing their pastured pork to market in the early spring, and then decided they would rather stick to markets close to home. However, if there is enough demand, they will come on an occasional basis to bring pre-orders and stay for the market. We’ve tried this once successfully, and they are collecting pre-orders for September 5th. Choose from assorted sausages, chops, roasts, leaf lard, etc., and place your order asap on their website: huberswildwoodfarm.com.

Jiminy! We’ve got a cricket farmer coming to visit! Yes Crickets is located in Owen Sound, and currently offers dry roasted flavoured crickets (BBQ, Sriracha Lime and Lemon Pepper) and 100% pure cricket powder (for use in smoothies, yoghurt, and baking). Crickets provide a complete protein, b12, iron, calcium, potassium, and prebiotic fibre. They require very little water, land, and feed to raise relative to other forms of protein. So step right up, and tell us what you think of this option!

See you at the market!
