Small World

Small world

Hello Market Friends:
After many years of weekly market news, we’ve got subscribers in Montreal, Vancouver, Corsica, New York, Stirling, and other national and international destinations, as well as right down the street. Greetings, Earthlings! We’re all in this together.

The market is still first and foremost a local one, but we do have some foods from afar, too, brought by vendors with direct connections to their source:

Small world 2

Angelos Kapelaris reports a good olive harvest! He’s still in Greece, and the best guess of when Country Meadows will return to market is December 12th.

This week we’ll have a visit from Lapapampa, with certified organic dried mangoes from Peru.

Green Florin will have nuts, seeds, dried fruits and oils from Moldova.

And of course, our prepared foods vendors bring us the flavours of many culinary traditions:

If we’re lucky, Ali Harris will be making his delicious Conkies, a special Bajan treat.

Manny Pérez will be at the Monforte table with tamales alongside many excellent cheeses (like the one in the photo above).

About the market

There are a couple more weeks of wonderful wood-fired oven pizza made by Leslie Lindsay to enjoy.

Happily, Shared Harvest will be back, Marvellous Edibles will have lots of storage crops, Kind Organics will have all the greens your heart desires, Ted Thorpe will be bringing a few things from his farm, Plan B is coming in, and our newest farmer, Cheyenne Sundance, will have salad mix and more from her greenhouse in Downsview.

Apologies if you have had difficulty with the ATM during the last c0uple of weeks. It should be fixed now, but if you find yourself in a pinch, the market has a ‘square’ and we can help you out.

A reminder to put your shopping bags, reusable containers and Loyal Eaters card in a handy place so you remember to bring them all along.
See you at the market!
Anne Freeman
