The Best Laid Plans

Hello Market Friends:
Sometimes it seems (knock on wood) that the week there is a detailed description of someone’s wonderful food is the one when that vendor gets a flat tire. Call it the curse of the market news, but things like vehicle or power breakdowns, snowstorms or road closures, and sick children, vendors or livestock don’t always cooperate with the news deadline. Thanks for your patience when our list isn’t perfect, and we send the best of luck and our gratitude to our vendors for taking the many challenges of getting their delicious food to market in stride.

That being said, faithful readers will be rewarded with advance knowledge, because the list of vendors will be a changing each time for the next while.

Jennifer of All Sorts Acre has so many seasonal delights that she’s coming again. Here’s her list:

Eggnog Gelato! Made with our own sheep milk, and our own duck eggs! It’s super rich and creamy, a perfect holiday treat. Smalls are $4 each or 3/$10, for all flavours.
Fibre Art Kits and supplies! The perfect gift for someone, including yourself. We have a Learn to Weave Mini Loom Kit, a super easy and fun project for all. Our Needle Felted Lamb Kit will teach you all the essentials for making cute critters out of wool, and all the supplies are included. Want to learn to spin wool? Our Drop Spindle Kit is perfect to get you started without investing hundreds of dollars. We also have a Felt Painting Kit that features naturally dyed wool.
Farm Fresh Greenery: Bundles of holiday greenery cut from the farm during pruning. Single bundles of dogwood, willow, and mixed bundles of dogwood, willow, cedar, and yew branches. All you need to do is provide the pot!
We may have a select number of Stewing Hens available, and Shepherd’s Pie if there is time to make it!

Sourdoughs: rye, potato-rosemary, olive-onion
Artisans: baguette, multigrain, cranberry-walnut, kamut
Italians: rosemary, multigrain, raisin, challah
and Rice bread

Kevin from Shared Harvest and Colette from Urban Harvest are at the Ecological Farmers of Ontario conference this week. EFAO is taking a leadership role in demonstrating what can be done (and what is being done) on small farms to address the climate crisis.

Angelos Kapelaris of Country Meadows will be returning to Canada during the market, and all of you who have been waiting should (see news title) get to see him next week!

Lots of other seasonal goodies and hearty regular fare will be waiting in both the rinkhouse (north end) and the garage (south end). Bring your skates along if you want to take a spin after shopping!
See you at the market!
