M-m-m-MAY?

Hello Market Friends:

Before writing this to you, I took a look at Environment Canada’s weather site, and decided to tell you that the good news is….NO SNOW in the Toronto forecast AFTER TODAY! How’s that for putting a positive spin on this chilly stretch? Farmers report that their early plantings are very slow to grow, the first asparagus was bitten off by frost, and fiddleheads are buried under the white stuff.

If there ever was a year to test everyone’s patience, it has to be this one. However, when things do warm up (and they will), we plan to be ready! More of your favourite farms will join us as soon as they have things to bring. We are thinking ahead to strawberry season and the whole rainbow of local produce that will be ready in the coming weeks, and making preparations to scale up the capacity of www.dufferingrovemarket.ca so we can get all that local goodness out to you.

This week we welcome Carole Ferrari of Motherdough Mill and Bakery with superb croissants, and Anna & Rafael from Tapioca Toronto with their irresistible brownies, Brazilian-style cheese buns, and tapioca flour so you can make your own crepes.

Time to place orders for this Thursday is running out, so don’t delay!

We would also like to give a special shoutout to the wine and cider producers who are part of the market community. Unfortunately, we can’t sell their products for them, but don’t let that stop you from ordering directly! Visit the vendor pages on dufferingrovemarket.ca to contact   Frogpond FarmWindswept CiderSouthbrook and Reimer Vineyards, and remember to drink local, too!

Here’s to sunny days ahead!
