Shout it out!

Eastern Screech Owl - seed paper greeting card

We’re shouting it from the rooftops: GOOD-HEARTED-LEVEL-HEADED-COMMUNITY-MINDED-WELL-INFORMED-PRO-ORGANIC-PEOPLE NEEDED!

You may have read our callout for new board members already, but in case you missed it, we’re including it again at the end of this newsletter. If you aren’t the right person, do you know someone who needs a little nudge to step forward? Please think on it for us.

I’ve been a little doubtful on some of the wildly windy and chilly days we’ve had, but I guess it’s actually spring. The bloodroots, most ephemeral of spring flowers, have opened in my garden, so it must be true.

I finally took down the still-beautiful wreath on my front door from Kawartha Broom Co., and now a lovely pair of cardinals is hopping about the backyard enjoying the seeds from it. Now that’s a fine example of cradle-to-cradle design!

The change of season is an ideal time to give your body a tuneup, inside and out, with help from our vendors, of course:

Marvellous Edibles has just made some fermented cucumber pickles and sauerkraut too; how are you going to choose! If your ‘spring cleaning’ calls for a nutritious broth, they also have beef bones available right now.

We wish all who are observing Ramadan, Passover, or Easter very special time with family and friends.

See you soon!

CALLOUT:

Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market has been a not-for-profit, year-round operation since 2002. We rely on a small but dedicated volunteer Board of Directors and are currently looking to expand!

If you care about sustainable local food issues and supporting the work of organic food producers, have a connection to the Dufferin Grove Park area or the market, and are willing to work collaboratively with others, you could be who we are looking for.

There are multiple seats available, and we hope to fill them with people who have diverse life experience, knowledge, and skills to share, including communication, promotion, fundraising, accounting, grant writing and people skills. We actively welcome diverse candidates who may have skills and experience that have been undervalued historically.

We would love to hear from applicants who are interested in all that our farmers’ market is and could be, including making it work well for the farmers and vendors, fostering community, and addressing food security and climate action.

Please send a letter describing a bit about yourself and what you could bring to this volunteer position to: jobs@dufferingrovemarket.ca no later than April 25th, 2022.

Resumés are optional. Note that in keeping with the policies of our hosts at St. Anne’s, board members must be fully vaccinated. Ability to take part in zoom meetings is also required.
