So nice to have you back Seth! Forbes Wild Foods had missed the previous week’s market – but I say if Seth is going to bring this precious angel for all of us to enjoy, all is forgiven! ????
Ok folks, so if you recall from last week, Izak, my superstar assistant, titled our last newsletter, “What A Week” – and boy was he right!
However, I feel like this past week would also qualify under that same description. For one, our city now has a new mayor! And regardless of how you feel about Olivia Chow, or having had the bi-election in the first place, change is upon us! Now let’s all hope it’s for the better.
We’re also into a new month. And for the Dufferin Grove Farmers’ Market, July means the return of two longtime vendors – “Nature’s Way” and “The Greenhouse Eatery”. Feel free to cheer. 🙂
From Nature’s Way, the amazing Ed and Holly tell me they’ll be bringing: “tat soy, baby bok, arugula, sweet potato, spinach, kale, rainbow swiss chard, dill, “oooh la la” hot sauce, eggs and their (award-winning) popcorn.” And here are some pics to prove it!
And Greenhouse Eatery will also have lots to choose from! Audrey has been hard at work, as you can see from these pics of her fields. She’ll be bringing for us, the following:
“snap peas, new potatoes, swiss chard, the most beautiful green and red onions, salad mix, garlic scapes, green garlic – and of course black garlic, and Jerk sauce.” And please know folks that sadly, Audrey will not be doing her famous jerk chicken just yet. She does not have her full staffing team with her currently, but hopes to be doing it very soon!
Also joining us next week is a brand new vendor to Dufferin Grove – “Aunt Beth Bakes”! So prepare your taste buds for delicious organic cookies, baked with a hint of whiskey! They are just doing a pop-up at the market this week, so don’t miss out!
Some info about them:
“Beth Havers aka Aunt Beth, got her start baking as a child with her father but it was the unique circumstances of 2020, that gave rise to Aunt Beth’s whisky-inspired treats. Beth has always strived to find ways to break down the barriers and make whisky approachable and fun! We have worked with some of the most beloved distilleries to create fantastically delicious recipes – one bite and you will be hooked!” (https://www.auntbethbakes.com)
And last week, some of you may have noticed the “new face” of Heartwood Cidery. It’s usually young Joel that we’ve all grown accustomed to seeing, but on Thursday, we were all graced with his dad, Brent. Brent said he quite enjoyed being at Dufferin, and thanks everyone for being so welcoming – great to have you, Brent!
And nothing like some “background ambiance” to elevate the shopping experience – hooray for musicians! Last week we were treated to the sounds of Richard Underhill, along with “Fat Quarter” – talk about “food for the ears”!
And to let you know..
Sadly, Angelos of Country Meadows, has had to say his final farewell to Dufferin Grove, for this season. He will definitely be missed, but you may still be able to catch him at the Sorauren farmers’ market on Mondays. We definitely look forward to having Angelos back at Dufferin as soon as he can be.
And as for Urban Harvest, they regret that they had to miss last week, but will return to Dufferin in late July, (and then once per month until the fall).
Ok, that will do! See you Thursday.. xo
