Food, Fun and FLOWERS – Yippee! 🤸🏿‍♂️

Market operates Thursdays, 3-7pm, at 875 Dufferin St

Yes indeed friends! You’ll find all three of those, and in healthy abundance, at this week’s market. Food, fun and flowers – what more do we really need? And don’t forget “fresh”! I can for sure, promise that on the food and the flowers – the fun, is up to you. Either way, isn’t it nice that not all “f-words” are bad? haha

Well “fun” (for some), can be as simple as a story and a cookie. It definitely seemed that way for young Snowy last week. (Pictured here, while being read to by his dad, David, and enjoying a yummy chocolate cookie from Johnson Family Bakery.) And I guess that (kind of) covers food as well. What a market we have.  đź’ś

And now, flowers. When you come to the market this week, you’ll see that those April showers really paid off. For the first market of May, (this Thursday), we’ll have a brand new organic flower vendor – “Taha Flora”. Business owner, Ashun Chaudhry, hails from Innisfil, Ontario, and has loads of narcissus, that she can’t wait to “unload” onto Dufferin!

A few words from Ashun:

“Virtually everything at Taha is done by hand. I think I burned $50 of gasoline, all of last year.

Zero sprays of any kind, the plants are fed with compost, manure, ash etc.” Incredible.

And now food. So much to cover, but I’ll do my best! First, the wild leeks (or “ramps”), in the feature photo. Forbes Wild Foods had these at last week’s market, and will again, on Thursday. I personally love how wild leeks are so packed with flavour, and also quite simple to “work with”. Just chop some up, and sprinkle into a salad, or even on top of a yummy baked potato. They can also be cooked, if preferred, by simply sauteeing them in a pan with some olive oil. Or if you’re feeling really adventurous, how about some wild leek pesto? Yum!

Nykole of Noki Farms, was all-smiles last week, with her gorgeous mushroom bouquets. Her pink oysters were a huge hit – no surprise there!

And brand new vendor, House of Tigernut, was very happy with the “Dufferin Grove welcoming” they received. Stay tuned – (business owner) Michael is definitely coming back!

For This Week..

A few returning vendors that I’m happy to announce. First up, Maizal Tortilleria.  In addition to Alejandra’s delicious tamales, tortillas, and salsa, her guac is just amazing! 🙌

Alma Bakery is also back with us this week. Reza will have his full selection of organic, vegan flatbreads, along with incredible dips and olives.
