Berry Bliss! 🍓🍓🍓

Market operates Thursdays, 3-7pm, at 875 Dufferin St

Strawberries!!! Need I say more? Well either way, they’re coming!!! After recently speaking with farmer, Ignacio (or “Nacho”), of Reyes Farms, I can happily confirm that! Our feature pic (as you might have guessed), is that of Reyes’ beautiful strawberry fields (out in the Niagara region.) Just incredible. And my apologies in advance – that really was a lot of exclamation points. But this week, both strawberries AND Reyes Farms are at the market – for the first time this season! Shouldn’t that warrant “excessive punctuation”? haha

And in addition to the “ever-bearing” strawberry variety that they’ll be bringing, Reyes will also have apples and asparagus. As for the “June berries”, (Nacho tells me), they should be arriving around the end of this month. 🙌

And if you needed something to be even more to be blissful about, Jiggy Popz has you covered. They’ll also make their season debut this week  – and with delicious “popzicles”! Yahoo! Summer is almost here! 🤸🏿‍♂️

Another reason to “yahoo” this week, is the return of Tapioca Toronto. Yes it’s true – get ready to welcome back Raphael, and the amazing Brazilian cuisine he offers. And that includes those super-delicious cheese buns – yum! đź’ś

Veggie Spotlight..

So last week I was reminded that beet tops need love too. They’re loaded with antioxidants, iron and calcium – so what’s not to love? That’s why, when Nathan, of Nith Valley Organics, told me that (sometimes) beet tops are tragically “left behind”, I told him, “well that just can’t be!” Nathan is pictured here, with the beet bunch I had just purchased from him last Thursday. Wow!

That’s when I figured, if folks aren’t swayed enough by the many health benefits of beet greens, perhaps seeing how incredibly photogenic they are, will surely win them over. So for this week, I recommend “beet-green selfies”! But after that, please eat them. Very easy to sautĂ©, lightly steam, or even consume raw. A beet green salad, with a little goat cheese and some olive oil – yum!

Some Vendor Info..

Please be aware that we’ll have a different/returning, fish vendor this week. First Fish is back at the market, starting this Thursday. So if you’ve been missing their arctic char and turbot, (both fresh and smoked), the wait is over! Some of you may even remember Divya (pictured below), of First Fish, from when the market was at St Anne’s Church last November. And if not, please give her a warm welcome this week.

And not to worry if you’ve only just gotten used to seeing Sabrina’s lovely smiling face around the market. Fisherfolk is definitely sticking around! They’ll be alternating each week with First Fish – so (“the Folks”) will return on May 23rd.
