Wow! A new month, already upon us – hello July! Hopefully you’re enjoying it so far – but also, let’s recap June. So in addition to being Indigenous History Month, Pride Month, Bike Month and the kick-off to summer, June 2024 was quite significant for the Dufferin Grove Market.
Fresh flowers from Aldergrove Farm.
To start with, the market actually had two locations last month. We started the month (June 6th), still being in the courtyard, facing east. Yes, it was a bit “snug” – especially with the return of many of our seasonal vendors, but we made it work! Then came June 13th – our “at last moment”. After five long years, the market was finally on the grass again – and all of that dreadful fencing (at the north-end of the park), was gone for good. At last, indeed! And we even threw in a clothing swap! Then we got to June 20th. The first market of summer, and the last market of spring – all in the same market! Summer began at 4:50pm that day, so with the help of Clay & Paper Theatre (and Greenpeace Canada), we put on a solstice celebration! Repair Cafe was there too! And finally, June 27th – last week. We closed out the month with a thriving market, complete with pop-ups, both from Cycle Toronto and Toronto Public Library. What a month it was – thanks June! xo
And thank you as well, to all the public school teachers out there – for working so hard all year, and educating young minds. Your vacation is well-deserved! đź’ś

Vendor News..
Our bi-weekly returning vendors this week: Pine & Ginga Juice, Maizal Tortilleria, and Green Florin. Scroll for the full vendor list, or click here.
Honey and dried preserves from Green Florin.
Blood Brothers Brewing also returns this week.
Veggie Spotlight..
If you haven’t yet tried Salicornia (also called “Sea Asparagus”), I suggest doing so soon. Forbes Wild Foods brings these to us, off the coast of BC, and they’re packed with flavour. A bit on the salty side, if eaten raw, so I recommend cooking them slightly. Steaming them for a few minutes, should do the trick. Another suggestion is chopping them up, and tossing them into an omelette, or adding them to any veggie saute. Ok, have fun!
Nutrient-wise, these are packed with iodine, magnesium, potassium and calcium. They’re also high in antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins A and C. Incredible.
