Gift to an individual in need – Matanot L’evyonim
Give the gift of food to someone who is experiencing food insecurity. There is a Jewish tradition – for the holiday of Purim – of providing money to buy food to at least two people who are experiencing food insecurity. We know there are a lot of people in Toronto right now struggling with food insecurity, and we want to be part of the solution. Inspired by this tradition, we are offering a special food giving program. You, Jewish or not, can participate in this tradition (called “Matanot L’evyonim”) through the market! How does it work? You give a gift here, and we turn it into a gift certificate and match it with someone who needs support to feed their family – allowing them to shop with dignity and receive their food at the market on February 25th (which corresponds to the eve of Purim).
