Hooray for June! Yes indeed – the first market of the month is already upon us. And with that, āLocal Food Weekā – June 2 to 8, 2025. Such a great time to celebrate local food, local farmers, and of course, community. And isn’t it nice how farmersā markets bring all of that together? What would we be without them? And your weekly support makes all of that possible.

But if you’re wondering what āLocal Food Weekā is all about, hereās what Farmersā Markets Ontario says about it:
āLocal Food Week is the annual kick-off to the outdoor farmers’ market season when Ontario growers and their just-picked produce return to communities large and small throughout the province. Now more than ever, is the time to promote shopping local, as many Ontario/Canadian consumers are actively looking to do so!ā Ok, you get it – see you Thursday then! š

āFun with fungusā! Visit the Noki Farms stall, and let Nykole show you all the fun varieties she has!

Yay – itās “fiddleheadtime” again! Talk to Seth, (of Forbes Wild Foods) this week. He knows all about how to best prepare these gems. But be sure to clean them well!

āKale-piniā, from Nith Valley Organics – great in a quick veggie sautĆ©.

Mizuna flowers, along with fresh lilac – beautiful and edible! Jenny, of Knuckle Down Farm, had all of this at the market a couple weeks ago. Hopefully sheāll have more again soon.

The ācelebration of localā continues, as we welcome back two of our hard-working farmers. Both Kooner Farm and Aldergrove Farm will be back this Thursday. Indy, (of Kooner), tells me heāll have the following:
āI will be bringing veggies like asparagus, lettuce, spinach, kale, radish and eggs.ā
And from Aldergrove, expect leafy greens, fresh flowers, and more!
So great having cheese at the market again! Talk to Susie, at the Monforte Dairy stall to see which varieties you can “explore”.
Starting June 12th..
We’ll have beer at the market again! Steadfast Brewing joins the market, starting June 12th, and will rotate with three other brewers each week – Blood Brothers, True History Brewing and Bickford Brewing. Stay tuned!
Also starting next week, weāll have a meat vendor again! Get ready to welcome Vander Heyden Farms. VHF offers: “organic, 100% grass-fed, grass-finished, regeneratively-farmed beef from Ontario”.

Shoppers perusing the Plan B Organics stall – so nice to be outdoors again!
Things Have Changed A Bit – Did You Notice? š
If you were at last weekās market, you may have noticed that this yearās (outdoor) setup was quite different from last yearās. Thatās because last year, (with the construction that was done to the park), several of our vendors found it quite challenging for their set up, (often running out of space.) So hopefully this new layout will work better. But please hang in there with us – as we figure it out!

And please keep in mind that the layout may change slightly throughout the season – as several vendors will be joining the market, at later dates. But please send an email if you have any questions: nicole@dufferingrovemarket.ca. (Or stop by the info booth, when youāre at the market.)

Delicious apricot jam from Reyes Farms.

Still lots of time to get your spring planting in. Be sure to check out the seedling varieties from Urban Harvest to get you started!

First Fish is also back at the market this week – bringing back local, sustainable cuts of turbot and arctic char.
Do West Fest, This Weekend!
Yes folks, June 6 – 8, 2025 Do West is happening! And whatās also cool is that some of our vendors are taking part! Kalmplex, (of Kalmplex Snax), will be doing live painting! This is happening on Saturday June 7th, from 1-9:30pm – on Dundas, near Ossington.

Also look for ChocoSol this weekend, if youāre at the festival. David, himself, will be set up each day, at Do West.
Hooray For Live Music Again!

Richard and Jim delighted market goers last week, with incredible sounds – some of you were even dancing! šš

Cheers everyone, and see you Thursday..
~ Nicole
