NEXT WEEK (DECEMBER 22ND) WILL BE THE LAST MARKET OF 2016. THE MARKET RETURNS ON JANUARY 5TH.

Today’s vendor list is subject to last-minute changes as the farmers assess the road conditions in their areas. We’ll update the list (below) as we hear from them.

If you’re struggling with the urge to hibernate, don’t do it yet! You’ll be glad to be out and about when you see the tasty things the farmers and vendors have prepared. And remember, by this time next week, the days will be getting longer again. Happy Solstice everyone!

It’s not too late to pick up a Loyal Eaters Card and start collecting stamps each week. If you’ve already got one, are you in the ‘perfect attendance club’ We’re planning bonus rewards for those who keep it up!

Marvellous Edibles will have Peking and Muscovy Ducks, certified organic chickens, duck breasts, legs and chicken breasts, all in abundance. They are taking orders for turkeys and turkey pieces for the 22nd. Homemade hams and fresh pork will be available next week as well.

Shared Harvest returns, with the veggies packed into a new van so they won’t freeze on the way! Plan B will take a break this week so Kevin can fit inside. Erika and Andrew from Waymac Farms say the mushrooms wouldn’t make the trip successfully though, so they’ll be absent.

Defloured tarts600

DeFloured will have an assortment of Christmas tartlets, including lemon raspberry, (vegetarian) mincemeat, maple butter, and salted caramel, $2 each or 12 for $20. Also, you can order large traditional tourtiere and chicken pot pies for the season. There will be a full Special Order Price List at the table.

Unfortunately, Sean Lovell  of Lovell Springs Trout Farm arrived home from his travels to find that he’d lost some of the trout eggs he spawned before he left. He has to prepare to spawn again, so he can’t come this time. He will be back for the market on the 22nd.

Jennifer Osborn has begun settling in at the new location of All Sorts Acres, just in time for a big dump of snow. She’s going to see how the driveway looks before deciding whether she can come into the city, so at this moment I’m not sure whether we’ll have lamb and wool or not. UPDATE: SNOWED IN.

It will be a full house just the same, with lots and lots to choose from. I’m looking forward to choosing market gifts this week! Shopping for them is so much more fun than a trip to a mega-store, and they’re always enjoyed. By the way, I personally guarantee that the market is a Little Drummer Boy-free zone.

See you at the market!

P.S. The Dufferin Grove Community Craft Fair is on this Sunday, December 18th, from 11-4. Here’s a note from the organizers:

Join us beside the rinkhouse once again as we celebrate community and ring in the season with beautiful crafts handmade by your friends and neighbours, from jewellery to body care to clothing and more!

As always, a portion of the items will be offered at an accessible price range (under $30). Admission FREE.

There will also be face-painting, buskers, affordable hot food and drink at the Dufferin Grove snack bar, skating and $2 skate rentals.

Venue is wheelchair accessible. As always most of the craft fair is outdoors so dress appropriately (the cozy rinkhouse is open to warm up however)!

We still need buskers and volunteers to run the campfire.
If you are interested, please email us at dufferingrove.craftfair@gmail.com
