An Extra Sweet Market, August 31st

An extra sweet market, august 31st

August is such a sweet month that we’re squeezing in a fifth market. It’s a good day to savour, before September routines take over, and it promises to be one of the most delicious markets of the year.

2017-08-30 15. 21. 43Don’t miss the final sweet harvest of Niagara Lavender Farm peaches! Debbie says they taste wonderful, and she is her own toughest critic!

It’s another busy week for the team at Sosnicki Organic Produce: Roma tomatoes, three types of zucchini, lots of Red Bell, Shepherd, and Jalapeno peppers and eggplants galore are on their list.

Knuckle Down Farm News: “For anyone who hasn’t escaped the city for the last big holiday weekend of the season we will have lots of summery vegetables to reward you! Lovely eggplants, tomatoes of all colours, shapes and sizes, carrots, garlic and swiss chard are among some of the things you will find at our table. See you there,”  Jenny

Windswept

We are thrilled to welcome Windswept Cider to the market. If you’re a long-time market fan, you’ll remember the one and only Mark Skinner, first as Greenfields market rep, and then as the lead farmer at Everdale. Along the way, he learned the art and science of cider-making, and now Mark and his family have a farm and cidery of their own: “Windswept cider is crafted with care on our 100 acre farm, set high on a windy ridge of the Niagara Escarpment near the shores of Georgian Bay. Made with locally foraged apples from lost orchards, and wild perry pears, our award winning traditional dry ciders and perry are a celebration of Georgian Bay spirit.”

Welcome back to Dufferin Grove, Mark, and a toast to your success!

We have two guest vendors: Leslie Brock of Red Dog Farm will be visiting once again with 4 varieties of garlic, and Sophie Kudla of Pasta Locale is coming to introduce her pastas. She will have frozen kale and ricotta tortelli and wild mushroom mezza lunas to enjoy at home, and warm pasta salads to enjoy on the spot.

Pine River and Waymac will be absent this time.

Next week the Repair Cafe comes to the market! Bring your items in need of repair! There will be stations on the rinkpad with fixers ready to lend a hand. We have room for more volunteers, so if you like to fix things, please get in touch via info@repaircafetoronto.ca

Almost forgot! WE NEED YOUR BAGS! Our take-a-bag, leave-a-bag depot (at the market information table) is obviously popular, but we have many more people who forget to bring bags than people who bring extras. Please bring any clean, lightly used bags you can spare to share.
See you at the market!
