Hello wonderful market community! And my, how I’ve missed you.
A thousand pardons for not writing to you last week, but what a week it was! Thankfully, however, there was lots of wonderful spring radish, from Nith Valley Organics, to feast on. (This week’s feature photo.) Be sure to grab some at this week’s market.

“Young David”, of Nith Valley Organics, looking deep in thought. Perhaps he’s thinking about how amazing that bunch of (as his dad, Nathan calls it), kale-pini is. I would tend to agree.
Ok, so “only two more to go”? If you haven’t already guessed, that refers to how many Thursdays (after this week) until May 22nd – when the market moves outdoors. Yup, I concur – a “YIPPEE!” is fully in order.

Salad mix, and various preserves, (including kimchi, sauerkraut and fermented peppers) – all from Plan B Organics.
Fresh Flowers, Fresh Faces – And Even, Fresh Verses!
Yes, it’s true – at last week’s market, Taha Floraa stopped by, bringing their spectacular Narcissus varieties. (Also known as daffodils.) And even though it was a rainy market last week, many of you still came and showed Ashun your support. (To let you know), Ashun is a certified-organic farmer, hailing from Innisfil, Ontario, who also runs his entire operation by hand. Some of you may even remember him from last year, when he was first at Dufferin Grove – (back in May, 2024.
)
Taha Floraa is away this week, but returns on May 15th to the market.

Longtime market-goer, Alissa Hamilton, seemed thrilled with her bouquet last week – can you blame her?

And City of Toronto staffer, Tyler, would not let a few raindrops stop him from tucking one of these beauties behind his ear – looks great on you, Tyler! 💜

This poem, (tucked inside the bouquet), was of course, written by our resident poet, Marc Nair. It reads:
“these dreamtime flowers
converse in code, colour
of the hidden sun”

Forbes Wild Foods will be back this week! Seth regrets having missed last market. However, he has no problem, if you decide you want to stock up, just to be on the safe side (going forward. 😉)

Grab some of Link Haus’ sausage while you still can. This will be their last week at Dufferin Grove. David does another Thursday market during the outdoor season – but he thanks everyone for welcoming him, while he was here with us.

Urban Harvest is also back this week. And Peachtree (right), who’s been working with Colette (for some time now), will be super happy to help you find the seeds that you’re looking for. And if you’re only in need of skincare items or essential oils this week, she can help with that too!

Frozen (and fresh) fish & seafood, from Fisherfolk – be sure to check in with Sabrina, to see what “this week’s catch” is.

Incredible gourmet mushrooms from Noki Farms – fresh from Guelph, Ontario. Talk to Nykole, (farmer/owner), about her fabulous selection of micro-greens as well.

And sourdough a-plenty! Johnson Family Bakery has you covered – including both sweet, and savoury scones (pictured below), to choose from.

Thanks For Your Help, Dufferin Grove!

What a community we have!! Truly an honour to be a part of it all. 💜
Ok, yes, a bit “mushy”, but perhaps you’ll agree. So this past Saturday (May 3rd), we had a community “flyer-thon”, where folks were asked to come out and help us deliver flyers in the neighbourhood. This event was “thrown together” fairly quickly, but still, a fair amount of you came out – thanks for that! Even our market poet, Marc, was there (with “crew”), helping out! But not to worry, if you, yourself, weren’t able to come out this time – we will be doing it again! (Stay tuned.)

Alternatively/anytime, feel free to grab a few flyers, when you’re at the market. If you can post them “here and there”, it would be a great way to show your support – and to also show everyone else, why Dufferin Grove is so very special.
And thanks, once again, to all who came out on Saturday. 😍
*Above photo: Colin, (who normally volunteers at Sorauren Farmers’ Market), decided to “lend a hand” at Dufferin Grove – thanks Colin!

A delicious veggie roti, with curry potatoes – also available with meat. (From “Estelle’s Caribbean Cuisine”.)
Congrats Kalmplex!
Pineapple-papaya – yum! One of the many delicious flavours of dried, fruit ‘snax’, you can pick up from “Kalmplex Snax”, when you’re at the market.

I’ve also mentioned previously, that (in addition), Kalmplex is a talented artist and photographer. And this coming Saturday, May 10th, (during the Contact Photography Festival), he’ll be at the gallery space, in-person – from 10am-6pm.

The idea (Kalmplex says), is that: “if folks have questions, or wanna lime and see the works, I’ll be there”. (Again, that’s on May 10th, 10am – 6pm.) This all takes place at 1213 Bathurst St, at “Space Unltd”.

Samosas, pakoras and more! All from Magic Oven.

Hooray for Isabel! Our delightful and super-talented, face-painter, was also at the flyer-thon event, this past weekend. She transformed many young faces, (along with some adults) as well. Look for Isabel at the market, in the next couple of weeks – she can’t wait to see you all.
Cheers everyone. You’re making our market better – each and every week. xo
Til Thursday,
~ Nicole
