Yes friends, it’s true! After this week, you’ll once again, be able to get weekly access of farm-fresh food – and “without walls”.🙌

(The market is officially outdoors from May 22 to October 30, 2025.)

Seedling varieties from Urban Harvest.

But please, still come this week! A May 15th market is still happening.
Also – we’ll have asparagus!! Coming to you fresh, from Nith Valley Organics! But don’t be disappointed like I was last week. I “decided to take my time”, and when I finally did get to check back in with Nathan, he was completely sold out! So if you can, I recommend getting here early. 😉

Peachtree (of Urban Harvest), gifted me last week, with an earful of knowledge, about this wonderful plant, called “asparagus root”. According to Peachtree, we can all now: “Get to The Root of Deliciousness!” She’s also given us some info on planting (and such), should you decide to grab some this week:
“Ever heard of asparagus crowns? They’re the roots of the operation—literally! Our fresh, ready-to-plant, asparagus roots (aka crowns) are perfect for starting your own asparagus patch. Plant them once, and they’ll keep giving you tasty spears for years to come!
Planting Tip: Dig a trench about 6–8 inches deep, spread the roots out like octopus legs, and cover with a few inches of soil. As the plant grows, keep filling in the trench!
Swing by the Urban Harvest table at the Dufferin Grove market and crown your garden today—your future self will thank you!”
Wow! Thanks Peachtree!! 💜

Happy Birthday Rodrigo!!

Yes it’s true! At last week’s market, we sang “Happy Birthday” to our dear Rodrigo, (of Plan B Organics.) Rod’s “special day” was actually on May 9th, but that didn’t stop us! If you missed out on this last week, feel free to wish him belated birthday wishes – I’m sure he won’t mind! But maybe grab a veggie or two, while you’re at it.

And special thanks to Janine, (pictured with Rodrigo), who is also very near and dear to us. She’s a longtime market supporter, and also the one who baked this incredibly-delicious cake, that many of us got to enjoy last week. Thanks so much Janine! 💜

Beautiful, fresh flowers – come and get them! Even though Mother’s Day has just passed, it’s still a great time to enjoy fresh flowers, and to support a local, organic farmer. (As mentioned), Ashun, (of Taha Floraa), comes to us from Innisfil, Ontario – and does his entire operation by hand. Stop by his table this week, and pick up a $5 bouquet!

Wild leeks this week! (Also sometimes called “ramps”), Forbes Wild Foods will be bringing these for us on Thursday. And for those of you planning a barbeque this long weekend (or going to one), wild leeks are great on the grill! Just brush them with a little olive oil, sea salt and garlic, and you’re good to go!

But if you’re someone who prefers “sweet”, a little more than savoury, then you definitely can’t go wrong with maple syrup from Forbes. Couldn’t imagine my morning oatmeal without it!

Fresh pickerel, (pictured here) from Fisherfolk, was among the varieties that Sabrina brought to last week’s market. And if you’re like me, and can’t get enough of their smoked fish, great news! Fisherfolk will have smoked pickerel at this week’s market!
And please note, that after this week, Fisherfolk will be on a bi-weekly schedule (during the outdoor season.)
First Fish will be returning to the market, (starting May 22nd), and then alternating weeks with  Fisherfolk.

Also back this week, is Alma Bakery. Reza was away last week, but can’t wait to return with his full line of hummus, flatbreads, marinated olives, and more! And (if you haven’t), try the baklava! 🙌

A Poem Is A…
AD 4nXdoZX260aG7BFO
This lovely face is that of market-goer, Robin – in a tender embrace with her son, Taylor. Robin was at the market a couple of weeks ago, getting a poem (on-demand), from our very talented poet, Marc. That day, Robin told me she was so excited, because to her: “a poem is a song without music”. (Obviously), I couldn’t not, make note of that – can you blame me?
So why not visit “Marc’s Poetry Dispensary” this week, (before 5:30pm), and find out what a poem is? (To you.)

I stumbled across this “purple patch” while strolling through our magnificent park, being Dufferin Grove. This was near the end of April, not far from the “hilly section” at the north-west end. Perhaps this “visual spectacle” is a small version of the poetry (that nature provides?) Either way, so glad I stopped for a moment.

Cookies! Thank goodness for cookies. Visit Johnson Family Bakery this week, and find out why. Maybe a cookie is poetry for the tummy? 😋 haha

Thanks everyone – have an amazing long weekend.
See you Thursday,
