Lovely Spring News

Lovely Spring News

Loose lips sink ships, but TULIPS? Local, organic, stunning tulips from Floralora? They can lift even shipwrecked hearts! This Thursday, we celebrate the return of Sas Long to Dufferin, with her abundant crop of fresh-cut blooms. Time to spread some love around with these wonders of spring.

2017-04-20 20.40.04 Wonderful news from Jonathan Forbes, too: wild leeks are in! Pine River brought a ‘teaser’ coolerful of leaves last time, but the bulbs are fat enough to harvest now, launching the official season.

Jenny Cook has crops at Knuckle Down Farm that just won’t wait, so she will be at market, and Everdale is coming too! Here’s a note from Kyle Warren:

“Although we’re not quite ready to be back steadily every week, we’re transitioning our tunnels to tomatoes and other great things soon, so we need to move some of the great stuff currently in the ground to make room. This week we’ll have spinach, salad mix, arugula, bok choi, spring radish, chives, dry beans and some storage carrots, beets, rutabaga, parsnip and watermelon radish.”

If you haven’t tried Everdale’s dry beans, I recommend you do. They are more tender and flavourful and require less soaking time than the beans you find in stores, and the varieties have the best names.

Earth and City drinksEven more good news: Earth & City is returning as well, with thirst-quenching lemonades, tasty kale smoothies, and good things to eat that are good for you, too.

Plan B and Bees Universe will be there along with all your other year-round favourites.

ruth klahsenHappy Birthday week to Ruth Klassen, founder of Monforte Dairy and defender of great Canadian cheese!

Come on over to the park and put some spring in your step.

See you at the market!
