Extra Special Events at the Market

Extra Special Events at the Market

So much to tell you! The word of the day has to be Strawberries, as we expect the first ones of the season. Ben and Jessie of Sosnicki Organic Produce are justifiably proud of their crop, which has absolutely nothing sprayed on it, and is produced with a mixture of vigilance, expertise, luck, and a lot of love. There may not be many berries, so if you want some, don’t delay.

Next on the list, we have several Extra Special Events:

We are hosting our first ever Word on the Street Pop-up! From 4 to 7, local authors will be reading from their work at the south end of the market, hosted by Sue Carter of Quill & Quire. Here’s this week’s schedule:

4:00 The Third Person – Emily Anglin
4:30 The Fruitful City – Helena Moncrieff
5:00 Stereoblind – Emma Healey
5:30  Downward This Dog – Sanjay Talreja
6:00 Toronto Poetry Slam Team – Gabrielle, Cassandra Myers, Jennifer Alicia, and Gavin Russell

Clay and Paper Theatre invites you to join The Patchwork Brigade:
“Are you interested in contributing to what will become a patchwork quilted banner representing this year’s Day of Delight theme: Love and Courage? In these difficult times, we all need love and courage to get through, and this means different things to all of us. We invite you to come create your own patchwork square with this theme in mind, to be added to the final quilted banner. We will be experimenting with techniques like applique, embroidery, and screen printing to create images on the squares of fabric.

One more thing to do as well as shopping and eating and chatting: extra special events at the market
Organic Inspector Chuck Mitchell has offered to come by and set up an Ask the Inspector table. This is your chance to find answers to questions you may have about what organic certification involves and requires. What would you like to learn about how organic food production works in Ontario?

Welcome back to All Sorts Acres. Jennifer Osborne writes, “We have finally begun milking and making. I will have sheepmilk gelato, yarn, sheepskin, lamb bones, and the anticipated sheep milk butter!”

2018 06 06 13.13.34We’ll also have Island Oysters, TC’s Tibetan Momos, Robinson Bread, and all the regulars except Spade & Spoon, who will be absent. Asparagus is still plentiful, and lots of other early crops are coming in.

Last week, several readers complained that I tantalized their tastebuds without providing recipes for my Mom’s Glorified Rhubarb Pie and Lunar Rhubarb Cake, so I have put them on dufferingrovemarket.ca on our new Recipes page. I wouldn’t give away these family secrets to just anyone, you know.
See you at the market!
