Busy, Busy

Busy, Busy

Busy days on the farms mean a few changes to the roster, and many good things coming to market:

Jessie Sosnicki says Ben will be bringing LOTS of strawberries, a few of the early ‘Wendy’ variety, but mainly the later ‘Jewel’ ones. Lots of lettuce, bunches of kale, and maybe the first few zucchini if they have time to pick them.

Jennifer Osborne from All Sorts Acres wrote to explain that she can’t come this time: “Our hay guy has just told us that he is bringing in bales on Thursday. This means I need to be here to move 32000 lbs of hay into the barn. At least we’ll have hay for the winter!” That’s a lot of hay….

Ted Thorpe has baby beets and  baby chard, bok choy, tons of lettuce, and a few other things that he can’t remember at the moment….

Wolf Chrapko wrote to say that the late planting schedule has caught up with them at Everdale, and they don’t have enough produce ready to come this time, but…Shared Harvest will be back! “Kevin will be bringing lots of different greens, beets, parsley, turnips etc.” Woo Hoo!

Praveen Ugadani of Flaxy Inc. is visiting to show you his ready to use sweet and savoury products made from Canadian organic flaxseed meal.

Day of Delight is coming up on June 17th!

For the first time since starting DeFloured 8 years ago (can you believe it?), Krista Tobias has raised a few prices. The changes are as follows:
Large Galettes – $13.50
Savoury Turnovers – $4.50
Vegan Cookies (buckwheat and quinoa ) – $2.25

Andrew Redelmeier will be offering samples of Southbrook’s organic wines, and The Turnups are coming to play some fun tunes for us.

We’ll also have a visit from The Canadian Homestay Network, which is seeking local families to host international students in July.

Our Special Event is a little different this week. We’re going to conduct a waste audit, to see what’s going in the trash, compost and recycling, and hopefully learn a bit about how we can do better. Come and talk to Nikki of Boomerang Bags and her friendly helpers, and pitch in. When you show off the re-usable items you’ve brought along in your ‘market kit’ you could win a prize!
See you at the market,
Anne Freeman
