Yes friends, itâs true! After this week, youâll once again, be able to get weekly access of farm-fresh food – and âwithout wallsâ.đ
(The market is officially outdoors from May 22 to October 30, 2025.)

Seedling varieties from Urban Harvest.
But please, still come this week! A May 15th market is still happening.
Also – weâll have asparagus!! Coming to you fresh, from Nith Valley Organics! But donât be disappointed like I was last week. I âdecided to take my timeâ, and when I finally did get to check back in with Nathan, he was completely sold out! So if you can, I recommend getting here early. đ

Nathanâs hand (of Nith Valley Organics), holding his incredible asparagus.
And Speaking Of AsparagusâŚ
Peachtree (of Urban Harvest), gifted me last week, with an earful of knowledge, about this wonderful plant, called âasparagus rootâ. According to Peachtree, we can all now: âGet to The Root of Deliciousness!â Sheâs also given us some info on planting (and such), should you decide to grab some this week:
âEver heard of asparagus crowns? Theyâre the roots of the operationâliterally! Our fresh, ready-to-plant, asparagus roots (aka crowns) are perfect for starting your own asparagus patch. Plant them once, and theyâll keep giving you tasty spears for years to come!
Planting Tip: Dig a trench about 6â8 inches deep, spread the roots out like octopus legs, and cover with a few inches of soil. As the plant grows, keep filling in the trench!
Swing by the Urban Harvest table at the Dufferin Grove market and crown your garden todayâyour future self will thank you!â
Wow! Thanks Peachtree!! đ
Happy Birthday Rodrigo!!

Yes itâs true! At last weekâs market, we sang âHappy Birthdayâ to our dear Rodrigo, (of Plan B Organics.) Rodâs âspecial dayâ was actually on May 9th, but that didnât stop us! If you missed out on this last week, feel free to wish him belated birthday wishes – Iâm sure he wonât mind! But maybe grab a veggie or two, while youâre at it.

And special thanks to Janine, (pictured with Rodrigo), who is also very near and dear to us. Sheâs a longtime market supporter, and also the one who baked this incredibly-delicious cake, that many of us got to enjoy last week. Thanks so much Janine! đ

Beautiful, fresh flowers – come and get them! Even though Motherâs Day has just passed, itâs still a great time to enjoy fresh flowers, and to support a local, organic farmer. (As mentioned), Ashun, (of Taha Floraa), comes to us from Innisfil, Ontario – and does his entire operation by hand. Stop by his table this week, and pick up a $5 bouquet!

Wild leeks this week! (Also sometimes called ârampsâ), Forbes Wild Foods will be bringing these for us on Thursday. And for those of you planning a barbeque this long weekend (or going to one), wild leeks are great on the grill! Just brush them with a little olive oil, sea salt and garlic, and youâre good to go!

But if youâre someone who prefers âsweetâ, a little more than savoury, then you definitely canât go wrong with maple syrup from Forbes. Couldnât imagine my morning oatmeal without it!

Fresh pickerel, (pictured here) from Fisherfolk, was among the varieties that Sabrina brought to last weekâs market. And if youâre like me, and canât get enough of their smoked fish, great news! Fisherfolk will have smoked pickerel at this weekâs market!
And please note, that after this week, Fisherfolk will be on a bi-weekly schedule (during the outdoor season.)
First Fish will be returning to the market, (starting May 22nd), and then alternating weeks with Fisherfolk.

Also back this week, is Alma Bakery. Reza was away last week, but canât wait to return with his full line of hummus, flatbreads, marinated olives, and more! And (if you havenât), try the baklava! đ

Oyster mushrooms from Noki Farms.
Save The Date!
Get ready everyone! On May 29th, we will host another âBaby & Kids Clothing Swapâ! And this year, books are included! And (as per usual), there will also be a much-cherished âsing along with Nashâ. And this year, a new event/activity has been added to the lineup! Laura Wood will do a âBaby & Me, Movement Classâ!

Here’s the schedule (for May 29th):
*3:15-6:15pm – Swap (Clothing & Books – no toys please)
*4:00pm – Yoga (with Laura Wood)
*5:30pm – Sing Along (with Nash)
Thanks so much to Sarah and Nat, for all of your hard work on this. đ

Incidentally, Toronto Public Library will also be at the market that day! (May 29th.)
A Poem Is A…
This lovely face is that of market-goer, Robin – in a tender embrace with her son, Taylor. Robin was at the market a couple of weeks ago, getting a poem (on-demand), from our very talented poet, Marc. That day, Robin told me she was so excited, because to her: âa poem is a song without musicâ. (Obviously), I couldnât not, make note of that – can you blame me?
So why not visit âMarcâs Poetry Dispensaryâ this week, (before 5:30pm), and find out what a poem is? (To you.)

I stumbled across this âpurple patchâ while strolling through our magnificent park, being Dufferin Grove. This was near the end of April, not far from the âhilly sectionâ at the north-west end. Perhaps this âvisual spectacleâ is a small version of the poetry (that nature provides?) Either way, so glad I stopped for a moment.

Cookies! Thank goodness for cookies. Visit Johnson Family Bakery this week, and find out why. Maybe a cookie is poetry for the tummy? đ haha
Thanks everyone – have an amazing long weekend.
See you Thursday,
~ Nicole

Delicious âdoublesâ, from Estelleâs Caribbean Cuisine.
