What A Season!

Yes indeed! Thanks so much, “dufferin-grovers”, for a spectacular market season – hard to believe it’s been twenty-four weeks already – wow! xxo

Now before delving further into this newsletter, I must give credit where it’s due. The featured photo, of “kitty-lantern”, was carved by our very own, Julie Swanson! Julie is one of our amazing market staffers, whom you may have come across at our info table, from time to time. Can you believe that Julie actually did this creation (in its entirety), during market on Thursday? Wow – well done Julie!

Ok, now the last outdoor market was a truly fun-filled event – hopefully you were able to enjoy it in person, as you shopped. But if not, allow me to eagerly fill you in..

So let’s start with “Happy Birthday Dufferin Grove Farmers Market!” This past Thursday, we celebrated the market’s 20th birthday – and what fun!

However, some of you long-time regulars, were keen enough to ask me: “don’t you usually celebrate the market’s birthdays in November?” Well the answer is YES – but also, thanks for asking! 🙂 To let you know, this year I decided to go with it a bit early, because I wanted to celebrate while we were still in the park – the magical place where it all began. 🙂 And after almost three long years away from the park, it was totally worth it!

Featured here is Bansari, who was serving yummy hot apple cider from Reyes Farms, along with birthday cake, baked by “Alli the Baker”. Long-time regulars may also remember Alli, as she was Dufferin Grove market’s very first baker! You can still find Alli selling her yummy treats at the Sorauren Farmers Market. Alli is seen here on the right, (along with yours truly) 🙂

And what would a milestone birthday party, (with “a side of farmers market”), be without music? Well thankfully, we didn’t have to find out! The musical sounds of Richard Underhill (and crew), along with guest vocals by Ken Whitely, created an epic and magical atmosphere. I even found myself dancing at one point! Did you see? haha

But even with all the birthday festivities, thankfully there was still lots of room for buying veggies and such.

Here’s a pic of some of Nith Valley’s fantastic bounty!

And incidentally, here’s a note from Nathan (of Nith), who wants everyone to know about delivery opportunities:

“We are looking forward to the indoor market starting up on November 17th, but if people need some produce before then, we will be running Wednesday Home Deliveries throughout November, in the areas of our usual Wednesday market at Montgomery’s Inn, and the Dufferin Grove Market. You can ORDER ONLINE at https://www.localline.ca/nith-valley-organics by Monday night for Wednesday delivery.”

And don’t forget to purchase one of our snazzy reusable shopping bags – only $20. Then, like Anne Freeman, (pictured here), you can be “stylin’ with your veggies” too – looking good Anne! xx

The bags are usually sold at market, but you can send me a message, to make other arrangements manager@dufferingrovemarket.ca

And finally, here’s Jenny of Knuckle Down farms – Jenny thanks Dufferin for another great season. Wow – it really does get dark early, in late October!

Repair Cafe update..

And a reminder once again, that the market is on hold until November 17th, at which point, it will move indoors, to St Anne’s church, (at 270 Gladstone Ave.) More details will follow.

However, the newsletter will pause for one week and resume on November 10th, (fyi.)
