Arugula Fields Forever

Arugula Fields Forever
Hello again dear Market Friends,

It feels like the weeks are just flying by. I am so grateful for the warm breeze and summer-like weather that seems to have come out of nowhere. I reflect on how I sometimes don’t recognize how much I appreciated something until it goes away.

The return of warmer weather is something to cherish while it is here. I am also grateful for this weather as it means that the frost has been kept at bay and our farmers can continue to yield bountiful crops to sustain their businesses and their lives.

We say “thank you” a lot at the Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market – to each other and to our customers. We hope that our sentiments come across as sincere; we truly value this supportive market community that has been cultivated throughout the years. You keep us going! You deliberately spend your hard-earned money at our market each week! You have been flexible and understanding of the work that goes on behind the scenes. You provide us with constructive feedback and send us notes of gratitude! It’s incredible and it means so much to us. Here are some of the lovely messages that we have received recently:

“I’ve been meaning to email you for some time to let you know how much we appreciate all your hard work to keep the market going – we receive weekly, and we do look forward to getting our beautiful delicious produce each Thursday! It’s been one of the highlights of our summer.” – E.L.

“Thank you so much for the preparation and organization of the market this year. It has allowed me to buy fresh and prepared food and to support our farmers and vendors… The web site is great! It may be the best online shopping program I have used. Kudos to whoever designed it. Good luck and keep on keeping on.” – G.Z-H.

“…it’s been such a great season, even with all this crazy stuff going on I feel fortunate to still be able to get my local produce, so thanks so much to all the staff and volunteers for making this happen!” – S.S.

“THANK YOU for offering the community access to local organic food 🙂 we are SO lucky to have this option…. We are blessed!” – N.A.

It feels great to know that we are all in this together.

This week, Thorpe’s Organic Produce has an abundant arugula harvest! This peppery green packs a delightful punch and is more than a mystery leaf in your spring salad mix. A member of the mustard green and cabbage family, arugula is nutrient dense and versatile. Try making an arugula pesto sauce, try it drizzled with lemon juice and Green Florin’s Grape Seed Oil. Lightly sauté your arugula and season to taste with Wild Mushroom Salt from Forbes Wild Foods. The possibilities are endless!
We’ve got pies! Robinson Bread, Marvellous Edibles and Motherdough have a variety of delicious pies available this week. Earth and City has new Pumpkin Spice Macaroons that are a perfect seasonal sweet treat.

Keep an eye out for some new handcrafted brooms from Kawartha Broom Co. coming to our Web Store on October 3rd. Functional and fabulous, these Halloween themed witch and wizard brooms are sure to sweep you into the spooky spirit.

Please note: This Thursday our order packing depot is moving to the adjacent building on the St. Anne’s Anglican Church property at 270 Gladstone Avenue. We will be at this location for the month of October. Customers with pickup orders will see our tents set up outside the building – we will be following the same system and protocols.

We have temporarily decreased the amount of delivery spots that we are offering this week due to the move. We will return to full capacity in the coming weeks.

I hope that you too can enjoy the weather reprieve while we have it!

Warmly,

Aanastasia and the Market Team
