The Market turns 17!

The market turns 17!

Hello Market Friends:
Happy Birthday to us! This week marks the anniversary of the market at Dufferin Grove. Can you believe we’ve been at it for 17 years?

It’s time to celebrate, so inspired baker Leslie Lindsay is making cake for all!
The market turns 17

We had grand fantasies of a balmy day on the rink, but since checking the forecast, we’ve been figuring out how many vendors you can fit in a Volkswagen. Fortunately the rinkhouse holds more than a Beetle, but there will be vendors both indoors and out.

I can’t possibly list all the wonderful people who contribute to the market, but I’d like to thank a few of our many cheerful assistants, who don’t always appear in the spotlight:

We are looking forward to seeing Bob Felhazi‘s loyal helper Helga Schulze from Pine River Organic Farm with a nice assortment of produce.

Melanie Stephens (pictured at the top) will be ready to assist you at the Shared Harvest table, and Kyla Schwartz-Lam will fill your bags with good food from Marvellous Edibles.

A visit to Ali Harris just wouldn’t be the same without a glimpse of Horace, Frank is always a pleasure to chat with at Kind Organics, Sonja will treat you to lots of samples from Monforte, and James from DeFloured volunteered to set up outdoors this week, so he deserves extra gratitude! Thank you all!

I’m sure I’ve left someone out, and if we had the full summer crew in attendance, the list would go on and on, but there’s one more person I have to add: special thanks to Nicole Jacobs for her amazing energy! Here she is in her Vampirate costume from last week. (I mean, who else can make the rinkhouse washroom look that good??)

This is your last chance for this year to stock up on traditional wildcrafted remedies from Catalyst Community Herbals, and to enjoy the stellar baking from Robinson Bread.

Marvellous Edibles has pork, ducks, chickens and beef, as well as lots of apples! Their apples are mostly, old heritage varieties and taste amazing. They also still have tomatoes, peppers and a whole bunch of greens.

Absences:
Plan B and Bees Universe will be away.
ChocoSol will be at the market next week, and alternating weeks through the indoor season.
Spade & Spoon and All Sorts Acre return next week, and First Fish will be at the market on November 21st.
Country Meadows (Angelos) is in Greece until mid-December.
Sorry, we know it’s hard to wait.

We will be handing out Loyal Eaters Reward Cards this week in anticipation of the program’s start date on November 14th. Track your market attendance with a stamp each week you come and spend $10 or more at the market, and get in on the fun. There will be weekly prizes, market buck rewards for those who collect at least 10 stamps, and big bags of goodies to win at the end! More details on the website.

See you at the Birthday Market!
Anne Freeman
