So long February!

So long february!

Hello Market Friends:
Well, we’ve made it through to the end of February. What keeps you going through the depths of winter? For me, it’s craft projects, cozy meals made from the good things at the market, flowers in the window, and planning for the outdoor season ahead.

This week’s photo was taken by Aimee Bourque during a blizzard in Halifax. She says, “Not only is this a fun science experiment, but you better believe I’ll be cooking these little shoots. Green onion, Napa cabbage, onion and garlic are all delicious in a stir-fry or fried rice. Baby beet greens and celery shoots go into salads, and carrot tops (when they grow more) can be made into pesto….Just thought I’d share what’s making me smile these days as we hold on til spring.”

As long as the snow plows clear the roads early enough, All Sorts Acres will be at the market for one last visit until sometime in May. In the meantime, Jennifer will be extra-busy with lambing season on the farm.

Ali Harris has been asked to cook for long-serving councillor and good friend of markets Joe Mihevc‘s farewell party at The Green Barns, so he will be absent. We have to share sometimes.

In his spot you’ll find First Fish, with hot and cold smoked arctic fish and frozen filets.

Stock up on everything Marvellous Edibles has on offer; they’ll be taking a rare week off next time.

Heidrun sends word that the Dufferin Park Bakers will have Caraway Multigrain and Olive-Onion Sourdough, Baguettes, Spelt-Walnut and Cranberry-Walnut Artisan Loaves, and Rosemary, Multigrain and Raisin Italian Breads.

DeFloured has a staffing shortage, but Shayne will save the day this week, so we can have all their delicious gluten-free goodies.

See you at the market!
