Hello Market Friends:
Although it is surprising to be wearing sweaters in June, we are moving towards summer, and a bigger and bigger market.
Before we are swept into peak season, we want to look back in remembrance of Debbie Wiecha, a much loved member of our Dufferin community, gone too soon. At 4:30, we will have a short memorial for Debbie, with music led by Ken Whiteley and Richard Underhill, and words spoken by some of her many market friends. We don’t expect the market to entirely halt during this time, but some vendors will want to attend. Thank you for your understanding.
We are in salad bliss right now. Along with lettuces almost too beautiful to eat, we’ve got fresh early harvests of radishes, rhubarb, asparagus, green garlic, hakurei turnips, spinach, kale, herbs, salad blends and green onions. Ben and Jessie Sosnicki‘s storage potatoes are excellent, too.
There is plenty of time yet to plant, and Urban Harvest will have organic seedlings looking for good homes.
Lots of barbeque options; Marvellous Edibles has a steady supply of organic chicken now, First Fish is attending weekly, Thor Farms has a good selection of beef, and Huber’s Wildwood Farm just decided to come again this time with pork.
Waymac Farms will be absent as Andrew helps Erika and Baby Oscar settle in at home.
See you at the market!
Anne Freeman
